Milk contains the protein casein which binds to the tannins that cause dark spots on the teeth and prevents staining.
Dr. Ava Chow, an assistant professor in the University of Alberta’s School of Dentistry, notes that adding milk in a tea is a culture-specific phenomenon and that this findings won’t convince some people to start preparing their tea with milk.
