If you cook a cup of rice you would be entering about 200 calories. This is how that portion can contain half the calories!
There is an easy way to reduce the number of calories in a serving of rice, and it is adding some fat in it!
The rice contains starch that is easy to digest but it also contains resistant starch, which due to lack of the necessary enzymes, our body can not convert into easily digestible starch. The more resistant starch a food contains, the less calories our bodies absorb.
Scientists from the University of Sri Lanka attempted to understand how to turn easily digestible starch in the resistant type, all for the purpose of getting the food to be less caloric.
By testing 38 different types of rice, they came up with the “recipe” on how to make rice with less calories: In boiling water, add a tablespoon of coconut oil, add the rice and cook for about 30 minutes. Once the rice is cooked, let it rest in the refrigerator for 12 hours.
Rice cooked in this way had about 10 times more resistant starch and about 15 percent less calories, but scientists believe that in certain types of rice this method could reduce the number of calories for about 50 percent!
