Only a spoonful of coconut oil can clean your teeth and help prevent tooth decay. It has a strong antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal effect, without the harmful fluoride! It will be much more effective than any other toothpaste or mouth wash.
A recent research done at the Athlone Institute of Technology examined the effects of natural and digested coconut oil on common strains of bacteria found inside the mouth. Not only did the coconut oil effectively inhibit a majority of the bacteria strains, but it was also particularly effective to harmful Candida Albicans.
Candida Albicans, a yeast commonly found in a diet full of processed foods and sugar is what enables dental diseases. And it affects not only our mouths but our digestive system as well. The scientists found and noted in their reports that coconut oil could be an effective alternative to chemical additives in many dental care products.
Well it’s time to consider oil pulling or brushing with coconut oil instead! If you would like to make the switch, here is a recipe for homemade coconut oil toothpaste!
- 7 Tbsp coconut oil
- 7 Tbsp Baking soda (aluminum free)
- 30 drops essential oil of preference
- 1 ½ Tsp Stevia
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. I like to whip mine with a hand mixer to ensure a good texture and pour into a mason jar until ready to use.
