Scientists Have Finally Discover the Function of the Human Appendix

We all thought that this part of the human body doesn’t have any specific function. But, we were wrong. A group of medical experts have finally discovered its main function. The appendix has very important function, and according to the medical experts – the appendix is a shelter for the healthy bacteria. Your organism uses it to “reboot” its digestive tract in cases of dysentery or cholera. A group of researchers, at the Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, has found that the human body drains “supplies” from the appendix, using its good bacteria to fulfill the needed number of bacteria in the intestines, which can disappear cause of many reasons, such as: dysentery, cholera, etc.

Professor Bill Parker, one of the researchers, says that we shouldn’t abuse this tract and exhaust our appendix. He also mentioned that it’s extremely important for all people to understand that if their appendix gets inflamed just because it has a function, it doesn’t mean they should try to keep it in. Professor Bill Parker says that this is an amazing discovery, but they don’t want to cause any harm – because many people will say: “Oh, I’ve heard that my appendix has a function, so, I’m just going to keep it”.

These statements were also found in another study on koalas, known by their long appendix. This body part has a crucial role in their dietary cycle, which is mostly based on eucalyptus leaves. One of the professor in the Department of Medical Sciences at RMIT University, Nicholas Vardaxis, agrees with the theory of human appendix.
