Hot Dogs – Yes or No?
Who likes eating hot dogs? I know I do! Hot dogs have over seven million consumers in the UC only, but this popular fast food has been a subject of severe criticism lately. According to the new findings, the hot dogs are also the foremost cancer causing fast food. It can even lead to four types of cancer! This popular fast food was originally brought by German immigrants in the 19th century. Its popularity was constantly increasing and it became a major landmark of the 21st century.
What are hot dogs made of?
According to the recent reports of the World Health Organization (WHO), all processed meats can cause cancer! Red meat and hot dogs is also a “member” of this processed meats group. To be more specific, hot dogs are made of a mixture of pork, beef and chicken. The hot dogs manufacturers usually use leftovers from steaks or pork chops, along with “edible” animal parts, such as animal feet and heads, fatty tissue and skins. The manufacturers do this in order to reduce producing costs and gain profit.
How Hot Dogs are made?
The hot dog’s production process involves grinding and mixing all the ingredients together. When all the ingredients are mixed together, they form a thick paste. After, in the production process, this mixture is enhanced with an abundance of additives, including large salt quantities, corn syrup, monosodium glutamate, (MSG), nitrates and other chemicals. Most of these chemicals have been linked to cancer! Many different institutions, such as the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine rank the risks of hot dogs on the same level as those of smoking.
What are the most harmful additives used in hot dogs?
The most harmful additives used in hot dogs are the nitrates and nitrites. These two additives are bind with the amines on high heat in the production process and result in nitrosamines. These compounds have been linked directly to several types of cancer, including bladder, pancreatic, colon and stomach cancer. According to the latest statistics of the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), people who consume just one hot dog a day have 21% higher risk of colorectal cancer. And the ugly truth is that even organic hot dogs contain high amount of nitrite. They contain even higher amount than in traditional hot dogs.
