Modern people use cosmetics every day. There are different products for washing, decorative cosmetics, sun cosmetics, male cosmetics etc. But are all of these products safe? Check for these 12 toxic and carcinogenic components in your cosmetics.
Benzyl Peroxide: It is used mostly in the products against acne. MSDS claims that it may cause tumors and mutations and also it may lead to damage on the human DNA. It is toxic if you inhale it. It irritates the eyes, skin and aggravates breathing.
DEA (Diethanolamine) MEA (Monoethanolamine) TEA (Trietanolamine):
These are foamy substances which irritate they eyes and the skin and cause dermatitis. They are easily absorbed in the skin and accumulated in the organs and the brain.
Dioxin: Mainly it is used in antibacterial products which are added to the products for cleaning such as the ones for polishing and detergents. Dioxin causes cancer, weakens the immune system, causes implications on the nerve system and deformations on the fetus.
DMDM Hydantoin and Urea (Imidazolidinyl): These products may cause pain in the joints, cancer, skin and other allergies, depression, headache, breast pain, ear infections, chronic tireness, nausea and insomnia.
CI colors and pigments: Synthetic colors which are produced from tar (during oil processing) contain bad metal salt which holds the toxins in the skin and may cause high sensitivity and irritation. During absorption in the skin they may cause lack of oxygen and this may lead to death. Researches show that almost every synthetic colors are carcinogenic.
Paraben-(Methyl, Butyl, Ethyl, Propyl-paraben): They are used as preservatives and often are not labeled. Also they may be found in deodorants and other skin products. During medical researches it was discovered that these substances are found in tumors of breast cancer. Paraben may lead to sterility in men and hormone misbalance in women as well as early puberty.
PEG (Polyethylene glycol): It is made from ethoxylated propylene. During this process in the final product were discovered high levels of dioxin. Polyethylene glycol in contained in all kinds of cosmetics, in all of the oils as well as baby cosmetics.
Phthalates: They are contained in many products and are not listed on the label. The damages which they may cause are problems with the liver, kidneys, defects during the process of giving birth, decreased quality of the sperm, sometimes it cause premature development of breasts as in girls as well as in boys.
Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol: They are contained in the lipsticks and lip glows. ERA (American association for environment protection) considers they as toxic and even recommends using glows while working with them. Also it alarms that in direct contact they may cause serious damages on the brain, liver and kidneys.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): They are used mainly in the laundries, in the products for cleaning the flour, products for cleaning heavy fat and it is contained in 90% of foamy cosmetics products. These sulfates may cause problems with the eyes, heavy breathing, diarrhea, skin irritation and in some cases even death.
Chemical sun filters: Avobenzone, benzphenone, ethoxycinnamate, PABA are the most common substances in the sun cream and oils for UV protection. They produce free radicals. Scientists suppose that they damage the DNA and lead to cancer.
Tridosan: synthetic, antibacterial substance. ERA classifies it as pesticide and high risk factor for the human health and environment. It is classified as chlorophenol – chemical which is considered to be one of the greatest causes of cancer.
